The identification of the main global challenges with consequences at the level of Europe, Catalonia and the cities is one of the objectives of the Fundació Catalunya Europa. Therefore, it sets in motion a space for permanent reflection and creation of initiatives and activities around the main contemporary issues in order to understand and interpret the complexity of the present and project the new emerging paradigms that should define the future. The areas of work that are included in this axis have a global perspective that necessarily requires global responses and a network connected with the main areas of thought and research. At the same time, global challenges have an impact and local consequences that deserve to be analyzed from a transversal and multidisciplinary perspective, generating a plural and quality deliberative space that determines the public agenda.
Within the Global Challenges Axis, the Re-City was born with the aim of placing thought, science and innovation at the service of the challenges of the 21st century and social sustainability. This initiative wants to contribute to position Barcelona at the center of the major debates on global challenges, articulating the synergies that are developed in these fields from different disciplines. The project aims to group research, scientific, political, economic and social spheres to discuss and analyze the major global challenges (inequalities, climate change, energy transition, impact of technology, democracy, diversity ...) to generate and make present the great debates in the public agenda, generate proposals and creative disruptions and make visible good practices, strengthening Catalonia as a space for innovation and social sustainability.
