The Board of Trustees of Fundación Catalunya Europa has held its first annual meeting, in which it has approved the priorities for this year

Fundación Catalunya Europa is leaving the X social network

The entity has decided to withdraw the Foundation's presence from the social network X as a sign of rejection of hate speech.

During the meeting, the Work Plan and budget for this year were unanimously approved, reaffirming the Foundation's commitment to debate and pedagogy on Europe and its future, with the aim of promoting citizen involvement.

The Work Plan emphasizes three major areas: strengthening the competitiveness of the European common market, the challenges that technological advances pose for democracy and the need to preserve archives as reliable sources of memory in a context of growing disinformation.

The impact on Catalonia of the Letta and Draghi reports will mark the Foundation's 2025 agenda, aware of the need for the European Union to carry out structural reforms to guarantee its economic sovereignty and strengthen its competitive capacity. The Foundation will also focus on the critical moment that democracy is experiencing in a context of growing disinformation and technological interference in public debate.

The Board of Trustees also agreed to incorporate three new members into the Advisory Board: Mireia Grau, Mariona Tomás and Jordi Solé. The Foundation thanks them for their commitment and trusts that their experience and career will provide knowledge and a transversal perspective to enrich the debate at a local, national and European level.

During the meeting, the President of the Foundation, Airy Maragall, opened a debate on the suitability of maintaining the Foundation's presence on the social network X. According to Maragall: "We need to be present in all spaces to defend the debate of ideas, but, at this time, the presence on X raises serious doubts about whether it is really an open, democratic and plural space. It rather looks like an agora with unclear rules and an ideological bias." As a result of the debate, the Board of Trustees decided to withdraw the Foundation's presence from the X network and strengthen other spaces and communication channels.
