The Fundació Catalunya Europa, together with the Association of European Journalists of Catalonia (APEC) and El Periódico de Catalunya, are organising the award ceremony of the 1st Young Talent Award for European Journalism, an initiative aimed at recognising and promoting research and interest in European affairs among emerging journalists.
The event, which will be held in the context of Europe Day, will take place on Monday, 5 May at 6:00 p.m., at the College of Journalists of Catalonia. It will combine a review of four decades of relations between Catalonia and Spain and the European Union, along with the recognition of young talent.
The aim of the competition is to encourage the practice of high-quality analytical journalism on European issues, as well as to foster in-depth knowledge of the matters and institutions that affect European citizens, now more necessary than ever. For this reason, we wish to publicly acknowledge the work of young journalists who address these topics with quality and journalistic rigour, as a guarantee of fostering informed public debate at the European level.
The event will begin with an institutional opening by representatives of the Fundació Catalunya Europa, APEC and El Periódico, with the aim of reaffirming the three organisations’ commitment to rigorous journalism, a key element in promoting a healthy and fruitful debate among European citizens.
This will be followed by the presentation of the first edition of the Young Talent Award for European Journalism. The two awarded works will be presented by their authors, Marc Solanes and Neus Aldeguer, who will deliver a short speech offering first-hand insight into their perspectives and concerns regarding the European reality.
The central feature of the event will be a debate entitled “Intergenerational Debate: 40 Years of a Catalan Perspective on Europe”, bringing together four correspondent journalists representing different generations of European journalism produced from Catalonia over the 40 years of membership in the European Union.
The debate will feature the participation of journalists Griselda Pastor, Carme Colomina, Albert Segura and Anna Buj. The discussion will be moderated by Natàlia Segura, a member of APEC, and will offer an overview of the evolution and challenges of Catalan and European journalism, the role of the media, and changes within European institutions.
The event will conclude with a closing address by journalist Eliseo Oliveras, who will share a reflection on the ideas raised during the debate and on the professional condition of journalism.
