More than a thousand people filled the centre of Barcelona to demand European values

9 May. We are Europe

On 9 May, we filled the afternoon with activity, reflection and celebration to mark Europe Day with a day full of civic engagement and vitality.

We started with an inspiring debate featuring the winners of the Young Europe Awards, who shared their ideas and hopes for the future of the continent through their research and videos on what Europe means to them. Through their critical and constructive insights, this new generation reminds us that Europe is not just a legacy of the past, but a shared responsibility and a living project that needs to be rethought and strengthened every day.

Afterwards, more than a thousand people and almost a hundred organisations and institutions gathered in the Avenida de la Catedral to take part in the Europe is us rally, a collective act to vindicate the values that unite us: democracy, peace, solidarity and freedom. A manifesto committed to human rights and coexistence was read out, reminding us that only with active and critical citizenship can we face the challenges of today and tomorrow.

The day culminated in the Plaça de Sant Jaume with the awards ceremony for the young participants and a festive and hopeful finale with the FemJazz concert, which filled the public space with rhythm, energy and diversity, turning it into a stage for celebrating an open, plural Europe committed to its future.

On Saturday 10 May, the Pau Casals Museum hosted a meeting to commemorate Europe Day and to vindicate the European project based on the pacifist and humanist legacy of Pau Casals. An event full of culture and commitment at his home in San Salvador.

The event was attended by people linked to European institutions and his legacy, including the director of the Catalonia Europe Foundation, Dolors Camats, who also attended to pay tribute to a key figure in the defence of peace, democracy and European values.

Heartfelt thanks to all the people and groups who made this possible.
We continue to build Europe. Together, every day.
