Pasqual Maragall Legacy

Series of seminars "Maragall and the Government of the Generalitat"



The cycle of seminars "Maragall and the government of the Generalitat" aimed to debate the work of Pasqual Maragall's government in the Generalitat de Catalunya (2003-2006). This has been the subject of analysis in the framework of the book "Maragall and the government of the Generalitat: the policies of change" (RBA, 2021), recently published by the Catalunya Europa Foundation.

The cycle was made up of 5 seminars, one for each chapter of the book, where the value and success of the measures of the Maragall government and their current validity were analysed, and they were identified those policies that could be promoted today:

  • Seminar 1. Self-government and democratic quality: project, politics and policies in the government of Pasqual Maragall (March 30, 2022)

Chaired by Josep M. Vallès, president of the Catalunya Europa Foundation and starring Gemma Ubasart, professor at the University of Girona and co-author of the book, who has presented a summary of her chapter; and Mireia Grau, head of the Research Area of ??the Institute of Self-Government Studies, who acted as counter-argument.

  • Seminar 2. Economic impetus, strategic agreement and financing in the government of Pasqual Maragall (April 27, 2022)

Chaired by Antoni Castells, patron of the Catalunya Europa Foundation and starring Carles Rivera, co-author of the book, who has presented a summary of his chapter, and Josep Oliver, professor of applied economics at the UAB, who has acted as counterpart.

  • Seminar 3. Social and cultural rights in the government of Pasqual Maragall (May 25, 2022)

Chaired by Eulàlia Vintró, member of the advisory board of the Catalunya Europa Foundation and starring Júlia Miralles-de-Imperial, co-author of the book, who has presented a summary of her chapter, and Marga León, professor of political science at the UAB, who has acted as an opponent.

  • Seminar 4. Territorial, urban and environmental policies in the government of Pasqual Maragall (June 1, 2022)

Presided over by Oriol Nel·lo, patron of the Catalunya Europa Foundation and starring Joan Vicente, co-author of the book, who presented a summary of his chapter, and Maria Buhigas, urban architect, who acted as counterpoint

  • Seminar 5. Maragall and the government of the Generalitat: Global balance (July 6, 2022)

Starring Josep Maria Muñoz, co-author and editor of the book, who has presented a summary of his chapter; and Borja de Riquer, member of the advisory board of the Catalunya Europa Foundation, who acted as host and counterpart.

After the interventions of the speakers and counter-speakers, a debate was opened with all the attendees, people linked to the Maragall Government, from the academy, from the professional field or with links to the governing bodies of the Catalunya Europa Foundation.
